Footage of women burning their burqas and men shaving off the beards as Syrians celebrated being liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Raqqa has gone viral on social media.
The ISIS forced the women to wear burqas and men to grow beards under the terrorists’ 4-year reign of terror in Raqqa, the ‘capital’ of their so-called caliphate when they seized the city in 2014, which saw the city ravaged by airstrikes from Syria, Russia, and the United States.
In the first week of July, ISIS defenses were breached in Raqqa after the US-backed fighters seized control over the last road leading into Raqqa before heading to the centre to seal the destruction of the terror group’s Syrian stronghold.
Some 100,000 Syrians are trapped in the city, defended by nearly 4,000 ISIS terrorists; however, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces are doing their best to liberate innocent civilians every day.
In a video released by the People’s Protection Units (YPG), women are seen pulling off the black robes over their black burqas the terrorists forced them to wear, and setting them alight before cursing the terror group.

Under the strict dress code imposed by the ISIS, the women were forced to cover their faces and wear loose-fitting gowns over their bodies. The ISIS imposed an “Afghan-style” dress code on men in Raqqa to help its terrorists blend into the civilian population.
Last year, Manbij women ripped off their burqas while men cut off their beards as they rejoiced at their newly obtained freedom after the SDF drove the terrorists from the Syrian city.
ISIS Terrorists Trying To Flee In Make Up
While the Syrians are celebrating their freedom, the ISIS militants are using female disguises to hide their faces in a desperate attempt to evade justice and save their lives. While some simply wear a burqa on, others wear make ups. But as ISIS’ territory is now decimated, they are quickly snared while trying to flee the frontline. The Sunday Express reports:
“The Jihadi had powdered his face, applied obscene amounts of purple eye shadow with thick black eyeliner, plucked and heavily filled in his bushy eyebrows, drawn on some beauty spots and finished the look with painted on red lips.
“He was also wearing a headscarf to try and make his outfit look more authentic. But the fanatic had overlooked one crucial part of his look – he had forgotten shave off his beard and moustache which – an immediate giveaway that he was not a real woman.”
