If losing weight was easy we’d all be perfect shapes and sizes and the sales of full-length mirrors would go through the roof. Losing weight is not easy, but losing calories is a simple enough task, and that in turn leads to weight loss. These are some simple calorie-reduction strategies to help you find your way and lose your weight.

Healthy Substitutions

Have a chocolate craving on occasion? Who does not? Chocolate bars, ice cream or even chocolate donuts can satisfy that craving, and overload the calorie scales. There are healthy low calorie alternatives that can accomplish the same thing. Sugar-free fudge pops and reduced fat chocolate pudding are a couple of examples. Some other substitutions: air-popped popcorn or rice cakes instead of potato chips; low-fat dairy products instead of whole milk products; lean cuts of meat instead of fattier cuts; trans-fat free margarine instead of butter; and whole fruit instead of fruit juice.

Eat More

Studies keep showing that the most effective way to control your appetite is by eating more frequently. It’s difficult for people to stick to diets when they’re constantly hungry. Eating more often means being hungry less often, which makes sticking to a weight-loss plan considerably easier. In addition, small meals keep your metabolism active and you lose calories as your body burns through them faster.

Daily Tasks

Many of us do not have time to devote to lengthy workouts or trips to the gym. There are plenty of ways to burn off extra calories while being productive at the same time. Run those errands and perform those chores and get more of it than you think.

Playing with the kids or your pet can help you lose calories in a fun way. An hour of swinging, sliding, and Frisbee catching will get rid of 300 calories or more. Other smaller changes can add up. Use the stairs instead of the elevator when you can, and park at the far end of the parking lot when you get shopping.


Yoga is a great exercise for beginners. It builds strength, increases flexibility, and helps prevent heart and metabolic diseases. It’s also a fantastic stress reducer. It congratulates our bodies to stop hanging on to excess calories in the form of fat. If you make yoga a part of your daily routine, you will notice physical and emotional benefits right away.

Start by doing 15 – 30 minutes of yoga each day. Search online to find a good yoga sequence for beginners.

None of these strategies are going to require too much effort, which means you’re gaining consideration benefits without sacrificing yourself or causing much difficulty at all. Once you start losing calories and dropping weight you’ll notice the difference. Try to make one small change per week until you’ve grown accustomed to your new lifestyle. After a few weeks, losing calories will be aa piece of (low fat) cake.
